`Article--

`SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

`This Article may be cited as the `Federal Marriage Amendment'.

`SECTION 2. MARRIAGE AMENDMENT.

`Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.'.

I would like to call shenanigans. Through our progressive social evolution from primative times where homosexual individuals were sent off to a convent or monastary in order to avoid public humiliation for a non-reproductive child (which happened to be the same social structure that encouraged the brutal murders of innocent people marked as "witches"), we have been demolishing these walls of social inequity one brick at a time. We no longer enslave those that we conquer. We, as Americans, tout human rights, democracy, and freedom to all others around the world (even by force, ala Mr. Bush).

Yet, when faced with two people who genuinely love each other, who want to commit their lives to one another in a religious or legal proceeding... whether it's to bind their souls or their checking accounts... Congress would like to make that illegal. I find this action shameful.

This is another symptom of the majority working to oppress a vocal minority... a minority that is finally saying, "We're not going to take it anymore."

Government should not mandate marriage, in any form, nor should it provide tax incentives (and in some cases, penalties) to marry. Thank you, Court Justices, for moving the Law of the Land out of the bedroom. Now, please Congress, remove it from our hearts and vote a resounding "No" on Bill SJ 30.
