Just my luck

Pictured below is the beautiful set of RS750s from AV123 that I just purchased and took delivery of. After some time with these speakers, they're opening up and becoming more and more wonderful. All this happiness for a price of $1171 (including shipping) for a $1500 (excluding shipping) pair of speakers.

But, as life would have it, she tossed a wrench in my direction (well more like directly at the heart of my car). I took my 2001 Jetta Wolfsberg 1.8T to the local dealership because my clutch was slipping in reverse. I was about 40 miles short of 45,000 miles. Livingston Volkswagen has informed me that my clutch is "worn out" and that I'm going to need a new one, somewhere to the tune of $1800.

Erm, whaa?

That's right.. $800 to dismantle and reassemble the tranny, and a mere $1000 for the neccesary parts.

First of all, $1800 for a clutch replacement is ABSURD. HELLO, MALIBU.

Second of all, I ONLY HAVE 45,000 MILES ON MY FREAKIN' CAR. Aren't they supposed to last until around 90k miles? Maybe even breaking 150k if you baby it? And damnit, I babied my clutch.

"Where does this put me?" I ask Volkswagen of America. "The clutch of your vehicle is only covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles. I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do for you, ma'am."

They can't even speak to the dealer to help me negotiate the price down.

I call shenanigans, man.

Where's that number to the BBB? I'd like to add my voice to the orchestra of these other folks:

I absolutely refuse to return my new speakers. $1800 credit card bill be damned.

Missing the Saturn?

No, actually, because when I traded it in at around 60k miles, I was getting similar "end of warranty? time to break!" issues. Humbug.
